The Taiwanese CAA is investigating a July 28 near-miss, 10 nautical miles northwest of Makung. Two IDF fighter jets flew across from behind a TransAsia Airways ATR-72 aircraft. They were less than 1,000 feet apart. (AFP)

The NTSB determined that the probable cause of the crash of an Emery Worldwide DC-8 near Sacramento, CA, was `a loss of pitch control resulting from the disconnection of the right elevator control tab.` The disconnection was `caused by a failure to properly secure and inspect` the bolt attaching the right elevator control tab crank fitting to the pushrod. All 222 Learjet 45 business jets have been grounded by the FAA over concerns a part in the tail section could fail. Owners of the jets have until Saturday to fly to repair stations to get the horizontal stabilizer actuator assembly replaced. (FAA)

17 AUG 2003 The nr.4 engine propeller broke loose from the engine on an Israeli AF C-130 Hercules transport plane just after it landed at Tel Aviv`s Sde Dov Airport, slicing through the fuselage and injuring seven passengers. (Jerusalem Post) 17 AUG 2003
One of the test Embraer 170s (s/n 0004, PP-XJF) made an unintentional gear-up landing at the test facility at Gaviao Peixoto, causing minor damage to the aircraft with no injuries. The incident was caused most probably by operational factors. (Embraer) 21 AUG 2003

The NTSB issued safety recommendation A-03-40 asking the FAA to require adequate protection of DC-10 hydraulic system components in the wing area from tire fragments in the event of a tire rupture. The recommendations is a follow-up of the investigation into the April 27, 2002 Centurion Air Cargo DC-10 tyre failure incident at San Salvador. (NTSB)

23 AUG 2003 A Lufthansa Avro RJ.85 (D-AVRB) on it`s way fom München to Milan-Malpensa diverted to Innsbrück, Austria. Reportedly smoke or fire in an overhead locker was put out using a fire extinguisher. None of the 84 passengers and 4 crew memebers were injured. (DPA)
